Nguyen Van Hieu is director and professor at International Training Institute for Materials Science (ITIMS), Hanoi University of Scienceand Technology. He received MSc. degree in materials science at ITIMS in 1997 and his PhD degree from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at University of Twente in The Netherlands in2004. He workedasa post-doctoralfellowattheKoreaUniversityfrom2006-2007.Hehas joined ITIMS since 2004, and he became associate professor and full professor in 2009 and 2015, respectively. He has been elected as a scientific member of physical committee of NAFOSTED (National Foundation of Science and Technology of Vietnam) in the periods of 2012-2014 and 2015-2017. His research focuses on synthesis, characterizations of nanomaterials for gas sensor and biosensor applications. He has published more than 90 ISI papers and his H-index is about 23 from Google scholar. He has been a guest editor for several special issues of the “Journal of Nanomaterials” and conference organizer of ICAMN 2012 and 2014 (International Conference on Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology) as well as several domestic conferences.
Title1: Our recent study on metal oxide nanowires gas sensors
Abstract: Recent advances in the field of nanoscience and nanotechnology have led to the synthesis and characterizations of a variety of one-dimensional nanostructures, such as nanowires (NWs), nanorods (NRs), nanobelts and nanotubes based on organic and inorganic materials. These nanomaterials exhibit novel physical and chemical properties owing to their unique geometry with high aspect ratio. They are the potential building blocks for nanoscale electronics, optoelectronics, magnetoelectronics, and sensing devices. The use of these nanostructures for developing the gas sensors and biosensors for environmental monitoring have been attracted great attention. This presentation provides a comprehensive review of our recent work on a development of nanosensors based on NWs materials for monitoring toxic gases in environment.WefocusonthegasnanosensorsbasedonSnO2, ZnO,WO3NWs,andZnONRs, SnO2-ZnO hierarchical NWs,and SnO2/ZnO NWscore/shell. The novel techniques such as on- chip growth and surface-functionalization was employed to enhance the stability, sensitivity and selectivity of metal oxide NWs gas sensors. The effect of diameter size on gas-sensing performance of single and average NWs sensors are also demonstrated. The hybrid materials of SnO2NWs with graphene and carbon nanotubes for low temperature gas sensors recently developed in our group might be directed. The self-heating gas sensors based on single crystal nanowires have been developed for ultralow power consumption, which are also discussed in this presentation.

Title2: How to get your papers published in ISI journal
Abstract: Writing a ISI journal paper is like running a marathon and it is not essay to get acceptance. In this presentation, I would like to share with you my experiences to help young researcher make it more simple. Some questions such as “Why publish”, “Where to publish”, “Why submitto ISI journal” and “What is an indexed journal” are discussed. The main part of this presentation is tell you “How to write a good manuscript for ISI journal”, in which I will demonstrate about several preparation steps and technical detail of an article. The revision and ethical issues is also disused.
